Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Hi all,

Liz, Anthony and I want to wish all of you a very merry Christmas and happy New Year. But my post doesn't end there. In case you haven't noticed it has been a while since I last posted anything so I figured I should fill you in on what has been happening up here in the great white north.

First, I believe that the last post mentioned something about snow. So far we have had about two major storms, but most of it has melted away, so currently there isn't much on the ground, and in most cases there is grass showing. Of course this is the winter I was hoping to try snow shoeing. I am sure that the worst is yet to come, and that old man winter hasn't let us off easily yet.

Why has it been so long since my last post, well to be quite honest there hasn't been much time. The last part of the November and first part of December is a very busy time at the Hawkes Nest, as all the family is taking part in the "Nativity Experience" at the church. During this time all, or at least one of us is out most nights, and when this is combined with our other commitments there isn't much time left.

So what is this nativity experience? Imagine a church turning itself into 1) Bethlehem -with animals and costumed carachters, 2) Christmas card scenes including a Victorian England street, 3) a play and choir presentation with a professional light show. I have a few pictures of this presentation.

First lets go to Bethlehem.
You would first be greeted by the animals. These are some of the animals that we had this year.

Then you would go into Bethlehem where the costumed carachters, Hebrew signage, buildings, and noise make this city very real. The pictures of the buildings below were taken before the room was filled with dry ice and lighting, so to say the least it doesn't do the final product justice.

The person in blue in the first picture is Anthony. The last one is a picture of the high priest on the front porch of the temple.

I wish there were more pictures of this but at the time this is going on I am having makeup put on and getting into costume.
So the next thing you would have encountered would be scenes from Christmas past. Here are a couple of pictures from that.

You may see some familiar people above. But in case you don't, Liz is in the black jacket and purple hat, I am in the red tie and top hat. Liz was involved in this section as a caroler, however she was also part of the choir in the play portion of the production. As a member ofthe choir she has been on TV twice this season, once as part of a telethon for disavantaged families and another time the news was doing a story on sounds of the season and featured the church choir.
You can see the choir at www.thenativityexperience.com
I was not part of this but my character this year, in the first scene was as a Dickens character, So we thought it would be cool to have our pictures taken like this. Unfortunately Anthony was in the town of Bethlehem at this time so he wasn't able to be in the picture.
So the next thing you would see would be the play. The church auditorium is changed into a theatre complete with stage lighting (which I always find cool). As you can see from the pictures below Anthony also was in the play as an orphan. He did awesome!!!! and really liked it. I figure he probably will be involved in next years production. I know I will.

So as you can see it is an amazing thing to be part of, and I for one am extremely honored to be part of it.
So I hope you all have had Christmas' as awesome as ours.

Winter Has Arrived

The unofficial start of winter is marked by the first snowfall. That occured today. There isn't much snow yet, just a dusting. I think this is nature's way of warming us up to the idea of winter before we get a huge storm. They are forcasting that it will be worse than last year. I hope they are wrong.

One Crazy November

To say the least things at the nest have been rather eventful. In the past two weeks, there has been a retirement, a birthday, a race, a new addition, a new paint job, and the practices for the play are in full swing.
Lets start with the retirement. On Oct 31, after 37 years my father retired from the railway. This picture was taken just before he left on his last run. So far he is really enjoying having some time to do the things he has been wanting to do.

So what else did I mention, a race. On November 2nd I ran in the Legs for Literacy 1/2 Marathon. 13.1 miles. At first it was pretty good. I finished with blisters on both feet and my legs were cramping up, my time was 2:20:57. I figure that is pretty good for a first attempt. Although I had said I wouldn't run in another race, I can't wait for next years. I hope to finish in under 2 hours.

The fuzzy face is because it is Living Nativity time again. I can't put up an pics of that yet, but all three of us are taking part and wow are things getting busy. And just to make sure that things aren't to quiet around here we are in the middle of painting the living room. Hopefully that will be done by the weekend, and I'll post some pictures then. If you want to know what color the living room is go to the local Ben Moore store and ask for Wythe Blue.

The nest also celebrated a birthday this past month. Liz has turned another year older. I won't say how old she is but she is now the same age is me and I am 34. We went to eat at Montanas to celebrate and boy do they know how to celebrate. Here is Liz wearing her party hat. Belive it or not she chose this place.

This brings me to the last entry, a new addition. To say the least Anthony is thrilled. The dogs name is Gizmo, and he is about 1 year old.

Fall is Here

As you may already now I am a lover of the summer. However with all the leaf colours that I am seeing this season I think I am OK with fall too. Even though it is that much closer to W..Win... (I hate it so much I can hardly type it). Winter.
Here are some shots of a local park

What a week!!

It has been a very busy week here at the nest. Anthony's football season began this week with a couple of practices and a game tomorrow. He has been doing very well at it and has impressed the coaches and team. Currently he is playing a Defensive Lineman, which I think he likes because he gets to knock people around. Here is a picture of him in practice. I took a bunch but I was in the bleachers and most of the practice was on the other side of the field. Anthony is the one in the blue jersey.

Liz and I have been tackling a lot of house fixes and learning a lot about home repair. We put on a new roof on the storage shed (Canadian translation - Baby Barn), and installed a central vaccum (with dads help. Thanks dad.). No pics because I didn't really figure you were all that interested in seeing a vacuum or a roof.

I have also began to set up a woodworking shop in the basement. However in one week I now have so many tools that it has expanded into the storage shed. Liz's uncle is a contractor and had come accross someone who had some extra tools that they wanted to get rid of. So Liz's dad brought them to the house, I am now the owner of a compund mitre saw, a drill press, a band saw, and a table saw. Thank you Gordon and Roger.

The big event of the week happened last night when Liz, Anthony and myself got to go with about 1600+ others to see Jeremy Camp. IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had some amazing seats, so we got to see everything. The opening act was The Silent. I am not sure hoe popular they are in the US but here they have been on the music charts several times. Here are some pics from the concert

First The Silent

Anyways I have to get going, Anthony and I are headed to a hockey game. You may see some pictures of that later also.

Anthony's New Hobby

Well Anthony has been asking Liz and I to allow him to take on this new hobby for several years now. Can you guess what it might be ? The season will be starting within the next week, so there will be more pictures then. By the way Anthony isn't mad in these pics, he is TRYING to look mean.

Service In the Park

Last Sunday the church service was held in Victoria Park in Moncton. Before the service I had a chance to get some pictures of the park.

The Choir and worship team sounded great

Its that time of year again VBS week. This week our theme is dinosaurs and creation. We had an archeologist come and talk to the kids today.

The decorations are pretty cool. Here is our dinosaur peeking out from the bushes.

Home Again

I just wanted to let you all know we made it back safe and sound. It was a long drive and we were glad it was over. It was good to get a nights sleep in our own bed.

We spent most of today decorating for VBS. No pictures yet (I forgot the camera), but I will try to post some in the next day or two.

I Am So Sorry

I must begin by saying sorry for not posting in so long. I figured no one read this blog so I stopped writting. However after hearing from Tom, Rhonda and the Perlas Family I found out that people actually do read this. So I promise I will keep you all entertained with stories from the great white north (Although I am currently writting to you from Leominster, but I am returning to Canada tomorrow). To all the people that we seen during our trip here, it was awesome seeing you all again. Stay tuned for more updates very soon
